SeaGlass.com Domain Name

SeaGlass.com Domain Name

You would be surprised at how many requests I get for my domain name. If you're among the hopeful, the short answer is that I'm not willing to part with it, primarily because I have been using it for my email address for so long that I really don't want to change it now. If you have a site related to sea glass, I'd be happy to provide a link to your site on the sea glass links page.

The Longer Story

I obtained the name in June of 1996 when I started a web hosting company called SeaGlass Technologies, Inc. (see my bio page for details). At the time, there were several software companies using marine- or nautical-themed names. Among the more prominent ones was Starfish Software started by Phillipe Kahn (of Borland fame). I guess I got caught up in the latest naming fashion when I revived a name my father had used for a company he ran in the 1970's called Sea Glass Office Services. That company pre-dated widespread use of personal computers and provided mailing list and data analysis services to small businesses.

I also revived the logo my father had used, which was designed by a friend of his who was a designer at IBM. I still like it, and I'm surprised at how the style has held up over time. One of the first things I did with the domain name, naturally enough, was to create my email address, which I've been using ever since.
